The Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency announced that Korean pears and bell peppers can be exported to Peru as of August 23, 2013. Korea and Peru have agreed on the Korean government's request for permission of exports submitted in December 2011. Korean pears and bell peppers have been approved for export to Peru under the August 2013 notification of the Quarantine Requirements for Export to Peru.

Exports of green fruits cultivated in Korea had been prohibited previously, but quarantine requirements have been established in June of 2013 after consultation between both countries. As a result, Korean pears and bell peppers have been approved for export to Peru under the Quarantine Requirements for Exports to Peru. Owners of pear and bell pepper farms who want to export their products to Peru should apply for registration of export packing and selecting houses to the local authorities of the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency and be quarantined by plant quarantine officers before the harvesting period.

Korean pears have been exported to many countries such as the U.S., Canada, Thailand, and Indonesia in accordance with quarantine requirements. Peru is the second Latin American country to grant Korea permission for fruit exports since the settlement of requirements for apples and pears exports to Chile. The settlement of export requirements is expected to establish a bridgehead for Korean fruit exports to the Latin America. The Korean government is making efforts to develop new export markets for major fruits and vegetables.
