Transferring Korea’s Agricultural Products Safety Management Technology to Developing Countries

The National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service (NAQS) announced that it invited 19 officers in charge of agro-food safety from 10 Asian developing countries and held the Seminar on Agricultural Products Safety Management from May 19 to 23 to improve the capabilities of agricultural safety management and reinforce exchange and cooperation with those countries. Nineteen officers who participated in this seminar on Agricultural Products Safety Management came from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Nepal, Mongolia and Uzbekistan.

This seminar started in 2011 is now on its fourth anniversary meeting. So far, a total of 54 people from 10 countries participated in the seminar. The seminar program includes an introduction to the Korean agricultural safety management programs such as safety management technology for harmful material including residual pesticides, certification programs including Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Traceability System, and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and origin management system, and a tour of agricultural products production and distribution sites.

Kim Dae-geun, director of NAQS, said, “Creating a friendly, cooperative relationship through continuous exchange and cooperation with developing countries expected to increase agricultural trade between Korea and Asian developing countries”. “It will also contribute to expanding the export of Korean agricultural products to these countries”.
