The Government of Lao PDR, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the United Nations Resident Coordinator's Office convened a High-Level Policy Dialogue at UN House in Vientiane on bringing youth-led digital innovation into rural development investment.
The dialogue concluded the Youth4Laos Digital Agriculture Challenge, in which students from the Republic of Korea, Japan and Lao PDR were invited to propose practical digital solutions to the problems facing small-scale farming families in Lao PDR. Winning proposals were announced at an award ceremony at the close of the morning program.
Ahead of the dialogue, the Korean and Japanese students travelled to Luang Prabang Province with students from the Faculty of Agriculture of the National University of Laos. Together they visited farming households in Pholart Village, Chomphet District, and Nasao Village, Luang Prabang District, that work with the IFAD-cofinanced Partnerships for Irrigation and Commercialization of Smallholder Agriculture (PICSA) Project, to see irrigation, climate-smart agriculture and ICT activities first-hand before presenting their recommendations to policymakers.
