The 8th special issue

Climate change significantly impacts agricultural production, and agriculture is both a major source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and a key solution for their reduction. The agriculture sector and food system (agrifood system) accounts for one-third of global GHG emissions, resulting from factors like methane emission from rice paddies and livestock, land use changes, synthetic fertilizers, and energy-intensive food production and transportation. These emissions exacerbate climate change, creating a dual challenge of food security and global warming. To address these issues, we must transition to sustainable practices, provide policy support, and promote carbon offset mechanisms to reduce GHG emissions and enhance carbon sinks within the agrifood systems.

The 8th special issue “Strategies and Actions to Incentivize Emission Reductions and Carbon Offset within Sustainable Agrifood Systems” of the FFTC Journal of Agricultural Policy (FFTC E-Journal) will focus on the challenges and practices associated with sustainable agrifood systems, emission reductions, and carbon offset strategies in the Asia-Pacific region. This special issue aims to facilitate collaboration and knowledge exchange among stakeholders, including researchers, industry professionals, policymakers, and farmers. It is expected to provide insights into policy frameworks, regulatory incentives, and capacity-building measures contributing to broader sustainability and net-zero goals.

We invite you to contribute to this important discourse!
