Call for papers (7th special issue)

The reliance on chemical fertilizers and pesticides in conventional agriculture has intensified due to increasing population growth and food demands. While these inputs have boosted crop yields, their excessive use poses risks to soil health, ecosystems, and food safety. Furthermore, their production contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and adds financial strain, especially for import-dependent countries. Concurrently, consumer demand for organic and eco-friendly food products is driving the need for alternatives to chemical inputs. Biofertilizers and biopesticides (B&B) offer a sustainable solution, enhancing yields while reducing environmental impacts and costs. The global biopesticides market is projected to reach US$33.64 billion by 2031, underscoring the potential of B&B. However, challenges such as regulatory hurdles, production issues, and limited application knowledge hinder their widespread adoption in the Asia-Pacific region. Addressing these challenges requires tailored solutions, including regulatory reforms, improved production practices, and enhanced training for food producers.

The 7th special issue of the FFTC Journal of Agricultural Policy (FFTC E-Journal) will focus on the challenges and opportunities associated with the commercialization and adoption of biofertilizers and biopesticides (B&B) in the Asia-Pacific region. This special issue aims to facilitate collaboration and knowledge exchange among stakeholders, including researchers, industry professionals, policymakers, and farmers. It is expected to provide insights into policy frameworks, regulatory incentives, and capacity-building measures necessary for promoting widespread adoption of B&B.

We invite you to contribute to this important discourse!
