DOST-PCAARRD-FFTC seminar to unleash the potentials of farm tourism

Title: Harnessing the Economic and Socio-cultural Opportunities of Rural and Farm Tourism

Date: May 30-June 1, 2023

Now that the travel industry is back in full swing, the DOST-PCAARRD-FFTC joint seminar in the Philippines, which will kick off on May 30-June 1, 2023, promises to unleash the various potentials of farm tourism in the Asian and Pacific region. Titled Harnessing the Economic and Socio-cultural Opportunities of Rural Farm Tourism,” the three-day seminar aims to increase awareness and understanding on the issues and key challenges of farm tourism. In the first two days, 12 speakers from Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam will share various farm tourism strategies, policies, programs and initiatives in the Asian and Pacific region and learn from the best practices and success stories of prominent agri-entrepreneurs of selected farm tourism sites.

On the third day, the seminar participants will go an educational tour to nearby Tagaytay and Cavite cities where they will be visiting popular agri-tourism sites like Gourmet farms, Silan Agri Farm and Yoki’s farm. Owners of those sites will share their experiences on how they were able to successfully develop their farm tourism business.

Farm tourism is a growing trend around the world where both tourists and farmers benefit from each other. It encourages economic activities while at the same time boosts recreation and education benefits, health and wellness, helps build character and fosters greater appreciation and awareness among the traveler, land visited and people who live on it.
