On May 12, 2016, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) announced that the memoranda of cooperation for mutual use of inspection results of variety registration were signed between Japan and Vietnam on April 29, among Japan, Russia and EU on May 1 on the basis of the UPOV (International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants) treaty.
