Terengganu government sets up 32 collection centers to overcome dumping in Malaysia

2015.08.17

The state of Terengganu in Malaysia has set up 32 Agro-product collection centers in its 32 state assembly constituencies to overcome the problem of dumping of agricultural produce. The set up of this collection center is in collaboration with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), the government agency that mandated to oversee the marketing of agricultural produce in Malaysia. Under this new policy, the government sets a  minimum price for all-season fruits such as durian, rambutan and mangosteen. This new policy will ensure that farmers will receive reasonable price and that price manipulation caused by middlemen will be reduced or minimized. Under this new policy, the FAMA will buy the agricultural produce should the price go down below the minimum price. This commodity will be kept in a cold room for future trading or will be processed in Malaysia or abroad.
