Lao Organic Agriculture Forum sets to increase export competitiveness and green development

Over the past decade consumers all over the world have been increasingly standing up for organic agricultural products. To facilitate the dialogue on organic agricultural development in Lao PDR, the Lao Organic Agriculture Forum (LOAF) opened its 7th workshop to be held on 28-29 November in Vientiane, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MoAF) in partnership with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

Despite the dramatic increase in demand for organic products and concerted efforts of the Government, private sector and civil society, Lao’s organic exports have not yet reached full potential both at the international (for goods like tea, coffee, rice) and the regional markets (fresh fruits and vegetables). Previous LOAF meetings have identified financial and technical challenges in complying with organic standards of buyers and the need to improve the commercialisation of Lao organic agriculture.
