- KREI held the 1st KREI Agricultural Policy Symposium

The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) held the "1st KREI Agricultural Policy Symposium" for future sustainable growth.
The event was jointly organized with the Korean Agricultural Economics Association and took place on Thursday, February 1st, starting at 1:30 PM at the Emerald Hall of the Federation of Korean Industries Building in Yeouido, Seoul.
The symposium focused on the theme of "Future Sustainable Growth" and featured presentations and expert discussions on the introduction of price support systems for major agricultural products such as rice and vegetables, as well as the implementation of compulsory rice purchase systems, based on domestic and international cases and current situations.
The first presentation was delivered by Professor Park Eun-cheon from the University of Arkansas, who spoke on "Agricultural Risk Management Policies in the U.S." Following this, Professor Ito Shoichi, Emeritus Professor at Kyushu University, presented on "Current Agricultural Policy with Income Stabilization Procedure in Japan." Subsequently, Professor Kim Jong-in from Incheon National University discussed "Debate and Challenges Regarding Grain-related Law Amendments," while Professor Ahn Byeong-il from Korea University addressed "Current Status and Challenges of Agricultural Price Stabilization Policies." After the presentations, a panel discussion was held.

- KREI hosted the "Agricultural Outlook 2024"

The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) held the 27th "Agricultural Outlook 2024" on January 25th at Dragon City in Seoul.
For this year's Agricultural Outlook conference, KREI chose the theme of "Agriculture and Rural Areas in the Era of Uncertainty: Challenges and Future." The conference was divided into three parts: Part 1 focused on "Policy Direction and the Future of Korean Agriculture," Part 2 addressed "Current Issues in 2024 Agricultural Policy," and Part 3 delved into "Industry-specific Issues and Outlook."
In Part 1, a special lecture titled "Hope in the Era of Economic Uncertainty in Korea in 2024" was delivered. Following this, KREI presented the "Trends and Outlook of Agriculture and Rural Economy in 2024," while the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs discussed the topic of "Adapting to the Era of Uncertainty: Policy Challenges and Governance Direction."
Part 2 highlighted key issues facing agriculture and rural areas, including strategies for stable agricultural management and achieving carbon neutrality in response to uncertainties such as climate change and food security. It also addressed the development direction and challenges of emerging industries like the green bio-industry and related industries such as pet-related industries, as well as strategies for coping with rural depopulation and revitalizing rural areas, especially through policies targeting rural youth.
Part 3 featured presentations and Q&A sessions on supply trends and outlooks for various industries such as vegetables, grains, fruits and vegetables, fisheries, and livestock.

- KREI, 2024 New Year's Kick-off Meeting, and Outstanding Employee Awards Ceremony"

On January 2nd, the Korea Rural Economic Institute held the '2024 New Year's Kick-off Meeting and Outstanding Employee Awards Ceremony' at the institute's conference room.
The event included the presentation of appointment certificates for the newly appointed department heads, awards for outstanding employees, and a ceremony for the delivery of government awards.
Following this, Director Kim Seong-woo of the Planning and Management Division gave a presentation on the theme "Changes for the New Year." As the final agenda, President Han Doo Bong delivered a New Year's address, expressing his hope for 2024 to be a year where our dreams, hopes, and research achievements bring joy to farmers.

- The 2023 Retirement Ceremony and Year-End Event

On December 21st, the Korea Rural Economic Institute held a retirement ceremony for Kim Byung-ryul Senior Research Fellow, Cho Tae-hee Senior Specialist, Jung Chan-seok, Son Yeon-ja, and Jang Young-joo from the Environmental Management Office in the conference room, followed by a year-end event.
President Han Doo Bong expressed gratitude during his congratulatory speech, saying, "Today is a day when those who have greatly contributed to the advancement of our agriculture, rural areas, and the institute in their respective positions retire with honor, starting a new chapter in their lives."

- KREI and RDA jointly hosted a Policy Research Consultation Meeting

The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) and the Rural Development Administration (RDA) jointly hosted a policy research consultation meeting on the 30th at the International Conference Hall of the RDA to explore measures for agricultural disaster response for food supply stability and discuss the expansion of collaborative projects between the two organizations.
At this consultation meeting, approximately 30 participants, including the President of KREI and the President of the RDA, gathered to discuss topics related to preventing agricultural disasters and stabilizing food supply."

On November 28th and 29th, the Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) hosted a two-day seminar featuring Professor Ito Shoichi, an expert in the field of food security from Kyushu University in Japan. Professor Ito Shoichi delivered a presentation on the topic of 'Contemporary U.S. and Japan Rice Situation and Challenges,' followed by a question and answer session. The seminar was broadcast live on the institute's YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@KREIpr).
